Evinrude New Zealand

SIMON GIBB has been a long standing Evinrude enthusiast and supporter and is regularly seen participating in events across the country.

The 2018 Bridge to Bridge delivered some good results for Simon, but it was a mixed bag. The team had a great day on Saturday, WINNING the 60 mph (speed restricted) class and WINNING the SMOC (standard motor open cockpit – up to 250hp) class, albeit by 2 seconds. The wins saw the team qualify second in the U19 age group.

In the main race on the Sunday the team were in a great position but unfortunately, just after the start, they experienced a small skiers gear failure which they had to stop to fix. Repairs took about 17 minutes, during which time most of the rest of the field went by. With typical Kiwi-spirit, they re-started  and finished the race, but were well out of contention for any placings by then.

As Simon says: "All because of a small plastic clip – but that’s racing."

Simon races a Sonic 1900SS Kevlar, built by Chris Bartlett Boat-builders in approximately 1999.

Simon purchased the boat, which has had a rich history of racing,  in 2014, and immediately fitted a ETEC 250 H.O., wanting the added power associated with two-stroke engines. There was immediate "Chemistry".

Since the purchase, Simon has particpated in various events and has achieved some significant results. Below are some of his achievements.
